Trends may come and go, but some things are forever; pastels in spring, moody lips in winter, bold shades for summer, and neutrals galore for fall. If there’s one makeup shade I can never have enough of, it’s neutrals. Well, neutrals and purples; but for this post just neutrals. If there’s one perk from Sephora I can not collect enough of, it’s mini lipsticks. Seriously, any brand, any shade, gimme! It seemed like destiny when I paid a visit to my local Sephora and this little guy was perched inside the 100 Point Rewards box. Thankfully this beauty was in stock, and so begins this match made in heaven. Everyone say hello to Lovecraft by Kat Von D.
Let’s set the record straight, I am not one of those Kat Von D fangirls you see on social media. I don’t parade around on instagram, talking about how the newest liquid lipstick shade flatters every skin tone and criticizing anyone who disagrees. I feel that certain brands have die-hard fans, like BareMinerals, Clinique, Benefit, and Kat Von D, and hearing biased reviews can obviously be misleading. For instance, I do not like KVD Studded Kiss lipsticks. Out of all the ones I have tried, they are dry, flaky, and difficult to apply. That’s what makes this little mini-lippie a game changer, I normally don’t like these lipsticks!
Lovecraft is a rosy mauve with a matte finish. It is still slightly emollient, which makes it comfortable to wear and not too drying. This is also a lipstick that looks different on just about everyone, it adjusts to your skin and lip tone. On me the Lovecraft pulls a bit more mauve, but the pink is definitely there. Looking at other reviews, like the lovely Christine from Temptalia and Isabella from Musings of a Muse, Lovecraft differs between a light pink and a dusty rose. It lasts around 6 1/2 hours, and towards the end it starts settling into lip lines. Despite that problem, I really do love this lipstick and will be buying a full-sized one when this little mini runs out sometime next week. Seriously, I’ve been using it daily!
Lovecraft is $21 and is available here. Do you have any favorite Kat Von D lipstick shades? I’ve tried Gothica, Coven, and Poe, all of them dry and slightly crumbly over time. Lovecraft is the first one that I’m loving, and I’m interested in trying more!
