Get the Look: Colourpop Puppy Love

This is a new segment I’m starting (hey, new year, new things, am I right?) where I’ll do a quick pictorial of a look and the product I’m spotlighting. For the first post, it’s Colourpop’s Super Shock Shadow in Puppy Love! ❤

When creating this look I wanted to play up the pinky-gold shift in Puppy Love, so I decided to do some rose-gold toned eyeshadows. Naked 3 is the perfect palette to pair with this shadow, but you could also highlight the champagne-ness with the original Naked palette.

September Favorites 2015 Urban Decay Naked 3

To start, prep your eyes with an eyeshadow primer. My personal favorite is Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion; Too Faced and Smashbox have some great ones too. Use Limit on your lid, and gently blend out past your crease. Using Nooner, gently shade the outer portion of your lid. This will create depth in the overall look. Lightly use it in the crease as well, blending out gently. Line your lash line with Liar, and highlight the brow bone with Strange. Now the fun part! Using your finger, gently pat Puppy Love on the center of your lid. The pink shift in this shadow pairs really well with this look, and adds that much needed pop of shimmer. Apply your favorite mascara and eyeliner, your normal foundation routine, and boom! you’re done. 🙂 Only $5, you can purchase Puppy Love on Colourpop’s site here, and check out my review on Puppy Love here.

Halloween Tutorial #2: Oh Deer!

Note: Don’t you just hate when you set something to post on a certain day and time on WordPress, and then it glitches and doesn’t post? I mean WordPress, what the hell? This cute tutorial was supposed to be posted on October 30th, yet here we are, November 2nd. Even though it’s too late to attempt this for Halloween, please enjoy! 😦

In search of a super easy, super cute costume? One that verges on hipster-cool? Look no further! While cats and bunnies have dominated the animal-themed makeup world for years, there’s a new player in the game. The competitor? Adorable, lovely deer. This quirky yet cute makeup can be done in 15 minutes, with only a few products. Unfortunately, I totally blanked out and forgot to take pictures of me actually doing this look, and only took after pictures. 😦 Let’s see if I can successfully explain this with some diagramed pics!

First, here’s what you’ll need: foundation, setting powder, contour palette, mascara, eyeliner, and optional highlighter. Apply and set the foundation, and then dive into the fun part, contouring! I used the Shade + Light Palette by Kat Von D, which is a fantastic palette. I overlaid some numbers on the shades to make it easier to explain.

With this look, I only used shade #5 and #2. Starting with #5, shade the sides of your nose, and continue up into the brows. Apply #2 along the bridge of your nose, going up between the brows and stop at your forehead. Sweep #5 along your jawline, shading up past the chin and closer onto the cheeks. Also lightly apply along your hairline and bring it down onto the forehead. Using shade #2, apply right next to the nose contour, on the cheeks, under the eyes, above the brows, and on the cupids bow. Make sure all of this is looking smooth and blended, without any harsh fines along the jaw or forehead. Continue applying #5 onto the neck and chest, to complete the contouring.

Next, the nose and lips. Using a black eyeliner, liquid or pencil, begin sketching in the shape. Try and make it slightly boxy, as making it round makes it look cartoony. Fill in your top lip with black eyeliner, and fill in your bottom lip with a nude lipstick.

Finally, the eyes. Apply your mascara and eyeliner; tightline your eyes into the inner corners. Bring the liner in closer to the bridge of your nose, to help create the wide-eyed, animal-like effect. You can choose to wear false lashes, the wispier the better.

Another optional step (that I semi-regret doing) is adding dots of highlight to your face. While using white eyeliner is optimal for this step, I didn’t have any and resorted to using a highlighter. As you can see, it looks…alright. Add the white dots as accent marks along the cheeks and chest.

To complete this look, put your hair up into two buns. This will mimic the antlers, and also add another level of cuteness to this costume. This step isn’t shown in my final looks, but I highly suggest doing it!

Once again, I apologize for this late post, and hope that you still enjoyed it. This deer makeup was so much fun to create, and very simple too! If only I could take off those highlighter spots…oh well, too late now. I hope you had a great Halloween! ❤

Halloween Tutorial #1: Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad

Hi everyone! As Halloween draws closer and closer, it’s time to start thinking about Halloween costumes. I am a total procrastinator when it comes to this; you’ll probably find me frantically searching my house on the 30th for some sort of makeshift outfit. Last year I literally threw on some Minnie Mouse ears, wore all black, drew a black circle on my nose with liquid liner, and bam! Minnie Mouse. Yep, I usually rely on my “craftiness” when it comes to costumes. This year though, I’m trying to get a head start by posting some makeup tutorials! First up, the crazy badass Harley Quinn from the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.

Traditional Harley Quinn: black, white, and red. Mehh. The new Harley Quinn: pink, white, and blue. Awesome! For reference, here are some pictures of Margot Robbie on set:

Let’s be honest: Margot Robbie and I look NOTHING alike. Nada. Please keep that in mind with this tutorial, as I would hate for you to finish reading this and think “She did such an awful job, she looked nothing like Harley!” This is a makeup post, not a transformation post. 🙂

First, you’ll need supplies. This is all beauty makeup based, no FX or face paint required! Here is what you’ll need: foundation and eyeshadow primer (you want that makeup to last!), a lighter foundation, setting powder, pink and blue eyeshadows, mascara, eyeliner, and the iconic red lipstick. All of the products I used will be listed below.

Starting off with the lightest shade in this palette, I will stipple this all over my face and blend into my neck; of course, prime your face first! After the foundation is looking nice and even, start setting it with powder. A nice fluffy brush works well, and make sure to dab the powder on, not swipe. Swiping might cause the foundation to move across your face, creating an uneven look.

Once your skin is looking nice and pale, begin on the eyes. In the pictures, Harley’s  right eye is pink, and her left eye is blue. As always, start with eyeshadow primer. This will keep your shadows from creasing, as well as make the color more vibrant. Apply each shadow ONLY onto the eyelid. Do not blend out onto the brow bone, just stop when you get to the crease. Instead of the color going up towards her brow bone, it goes outward onto her cheekbones. That’s another thing I absolutely love about her makeup, the messier the better! Lightly dust the shadow from the corners of your eyes at a downward angle, stopping at your cheekbone. I used these two shades from the BH Palette:

Tightline your eyes with a black eyeliner, add some mascara, and line your lids with your choice of eyeliner formula. I prefer using black eyeshadow, as it doesn’t appear so harsh. Your choice though! Lastly, draw and fill in a heart below your right eye with black eyeliner. At this point, your makeup should look something like this:

The final two steps: lipstick and pigtails. Harley wears a classic red lip, but in some instances rocks a darker, moodier shade of red. I used NARS Cruella all over my lips, and darkened the outer corners with Bite Black Cherry lipstick.

Separate your hair in half, and pull it into pigtails on both sides of your head. Keep a few strands loose on both sides, to keep it playful. Just like that, you’re done!

A nice, fun look for a Halloween party or a comic book loving cosplayer. I really hope you enjoyed this post, as I had a ton of fun creating this look. Thank you for reading, and look out for the next tutorial! ❤

Mani Monday: Slasher Film

Now that it’s getting closer to Halloween, I figured it was time to “spook-ify” my manicure. Ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, monsters, Frankenstein, there are so many designs to choose from! After a quick Pinterest search, I found the perfect look. Behold, the Slasher Film-inspired manicure!

Simple white nail polish with some red splatters; just the perfect amount of creepy for this holiday. If you want to try this, I suggest using a cheap brush with stiffer bristles, maybe even an old toothbrush. It can get messy, so do the splattering over a towel or a piece of tin foil. Do you have a Halloween manicure?

4th of July Makeup

To those in America, happy 4th! To those elsewhere, happy Saturday! Everywhere across the country people are openin’ a 6-pack, grillin’ some hot dogs, and shooting’ off fireworks. Why? Cus ‘Merica! Okay, I’m done talking like a stereotypical American; felt like I was losing brain cells with every word. Anyways, I just felt like posting my makeup look today; I went for a subtle, shimmery nude eyeshadow, some soft contouring, and a bright red lip. The products I used will be listed below.

P.S.- How cute is this cardigan?! I got it last year from Windsor’s, but you can buy a similar one from this shop here.

Tropi-coral Color #2: Island Berry

The colorful looks continue, this time taking a “berry” unexpected twist. (Ahh, I’m so punny!) Purple is the dominant color here, with a pop of blue and a hint of pink. If warm shades aren’t really your thing, this look is perfect for you. A nice, cool-toned eyeshadow, black mascara/liner, and a bright lip. All shadows are by Urban Decay, but some of them are discontinued, so I will link the dupes in the product list at the end of this post.

For the eyes, you’ll need 4 eyeshadows: a bright, turquoise blue, a cool-toned magenta, a medium violet-purple, and a light, rosy shadow. As always, prime your eyelids. I use eyeshadow primer, but others use white eyeliner, moisturizer, concealer, etc. Cover the entire lid with the magenta shadow, blending it upward to the crease. Apply the violet shadow to the outer corners of your eye, and blend into the crease. Use the turquoise shadow around the inner eye corner, and blend into the magenta shadow. Finish by blending the rosy shadow along the crease and upwards towards the brow bone. Caution: be very careful when blending these eyeshadows, too much and it’ll look like you have a black eye! As always, complete the look with some eyeliner and mascara.

Use your favorite primer, foundation and concealer, set with powder. Apply a cool toned plum blush, and a soft contour and highlight. For the lips, I used a purple/pink lipstick and added some magenta shadow to give it some shimmer.

There you have it, a tropical, cool-toned look! Only one more “Tropi-coral” look, what color scheme will it be?? Stay tuned! 😉
